....should have been like any other month in young Rupert Grint’s life. Little did he know, however, that events were about to take place that would change the course of his life.
9 August 2000: On a set at Leavesden Studios, Rupert was going through one of the final auditioning stages for the part of Ron Weasley in the Harry Potter films. This time he would be auditioning with two other young actors: Daniel Radcliffe (as the title character) and Emma Watson (as Hermione Granger). Original footage from this screen test was not released to the public until 8 December 2009 – nearly 10 years later!

Director Chris Columbus and producer David Heyman have found their Harry Potter and yes, he's a Brit. Tyro thesps Rupert Grint, 11, and Emma Watson, 10 -- veterans only of their school plays -- will portray Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger, Potter's pals at Hogwarts School.
The actors were cast from the thousands of children who cast their names into the hat to play the roles.
'Potter' author J. K. Rowling gave her blessing to the cast. 'Having seen Dan Radcliffe's screen test, I don't think Chris Columbus could have found a better Harry,' she said. "I wish Dan, Emma and Rupert the very best of luck and hope that they have as much fun acting the first year at Hogwarts as I had writing it.'

23 August 2000: Just a day before his 12th birthday, Rupert spent the day at a press conference introducing himself to the world. Press from all over the globe came to cover this event and the first official photos of the trio were released.

Red-headed Rupert Grint, 11, said he was halfway through the fourth book - and was well suited to playing Ron.
"I think I'm scarily like my character," he said.
"I live in a family of seven and have a red-headed sister." Asked about his previous roles, he said his most memorable part was as a British astrologer.
"I've dressed up as Mystic Meg, and I've done a lot of raps."
The film's producer, David Heyman, read a message from JK Rowling which said she was delighted to have a "screen Ron and Hermione who can bicker as if they've been doing it all their lives".

The spotlight at Wednesday's press conference was solely on Daniel and two other pint-sized actors -- Emma Watson, 10, and Rupert Grint, 11, who will play Harry's best friends, the bookish Hermione Granger and red-haired Ron Weasley.
Rupert, who likes football and "hanging out" with his friends, said he could relate to his character because he, too, had a red-headed sister and a similar personality.

For someone who has tangled with Lord Voldemort, the master of the dark arts, and won, Harry Potter was remarkably shy when confronted by a roomful of the Muggle press yesterday. Moments before his alter ego, Daniel Radcliffe and co-stars Emma Watson (who will play Hermione) and Rupert Grint (Ron) arrived, a Warner Brothers executive gently lowered all the microphones to 11-year-old height and provided cushions for the stars of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone to sit on.

The other newcomer, red-headed Rupert, admitted that he was "scarily like my character."
